I think I just found my stripped lower: lower

No sense in buying a prebuilt kit when I'm gonna upgrade the trigger anyways... I looked for a BLT but most of them are sold built not stripped.

My two cents is whatever you do make sure its for NATO 5.56, that way you can shoot both the NATO round and the .223

I have been thinking of building an AR for some time and just never got around to it. This weekend there is a gun show in Phoenix so I figured I would head on down to the gun show and pick up either a stripped or complete lower. As I am looking around I find stripped lowers going for anywhere from $90 to $300+ - complete lowers (with collapsible stock) anywhere from $240 to $900. As I am pricing things out and comparing to what I have seen online, I figure that the cheapest I could actually build the rifle would be in the $700 range excluding any sights, magazines, etc..

Just as I am about to pull the trigger on purchasing the lower, my brother waves me over to one of the booths. Their show special was a DPMS Panther 556NATO AR for $725 including the rail mount front/rear sites, BSA Pano holographic site, hard case, 2 mags, cleaning kit, sling... A little negotiation and they agreed to also cover half the sales tax. Out the door price was $750. DPMS might not be the highest rated brand in the AR community, but for what I want to do with it I think it will work fine. Also heard they had pretty solid customer service.

Now I just need to get a buddy of mine to sell me his 22LR upper.

Keep in mind, when buying good parts it took me almost 11 months with all the backorders. The upper alone took 6.5 months to receive.

Parts are a bitch to find now.

one thing to know, there are a lot of different brands out there, but many of them are made by the same people!

Colt/Noveske(some)/Stag are all made by CMT, and are great parts. The Stag lower parts kit is very cheap from www.stagarms.com but they are out of stock currently.

My friend just ordered a CMMG lower parts kit from bravo company and got it in a week! was around 62$.

GL! And post pix

Good point. The one he bought from BCM has a 5.56mm chamber. A lot of new AR shooters miss this.

[QUOTE=Apollo,Sep 13 2009, 01:30 PM] Tactical Carbine (my guess as to what you seem to want): http://www.snipercountry.com/Articles/AR15_part2.asp

Yeah the whole article is a bit dated from 12 years ago. To be honest, I don't even agree with all the opinions from it but feel it's a decent starting article.

I will readily admit I know zip about tactical carbines. I got into AR's to get into HP service rifle so that's the stuff I really look at.
