Arachnophobia anyone???
Recently, I hosted a brake clinic at my home/garage. At one point, one of the participants, Chix Rule, happened upon a fairly commonly seen spider around my property. By fairly common, I guess each year around this time, I tend to spot two or three of these yellow and black arachnids (sometimes misnomered as "Banana Spider"...but I'll go with that name as well since I garage The Bruised Banana nearby
). Well, if April thought the one spider she noticed was giving her the heebie-jeebies...then she should have walked around to the back of my wife's barn this morning!!! Holy-schmolies!!! I counted over 27 separate spiders and their webs within a 20 square yard area at the back of the barn. A few pics below:
Here is some information on the actual family of spiders that have taken up immense residence behind our barn...

I actually don't mind spiders. The ones in pictures are harmless to humans so need to worry. They actually do more good then harm. I think the fact you have so many of them is actually keeping the insect pop in your barn quite low but that's just guessing. If it was poisonous...I'd definetly call the exterminator.

I'm arachnophobic. It took me over 5 years to see that movie. I used to love watching scary spider movies when I was a kid, just to scare myself silly, but now I prefer to smack spiders w/ bottom of my shoe. I don't really enjoy them that much. When I dream of these creepy crawlers (nightmare) I'm petrified/frozen solid and I wake up just frozen.
Dave, d/t all those spiders, I'm not sure if I could ever visit you during non-winter months even though they are banana spiders, I just can't imagine walking out back and walking right into their webs face first........
