Some really interesting point of views. Its a shame that because of some hot heads we can't share point of views.
But, I can get really excited when discussing politics. So, with that in mind I'm not passing judgement on our gifted moderators.

Brant - I know this is a car forum... but it's a community to me as well. I enjoy a lively discourse with my fellow members.

No communist, because you are just censoring somthing that you think is a threat. Therefore, shut it down right, before a problem occurs. Look, we would not have to deal with this problem, if we had a specific place to talk about it. Why is it soo bad to have a chat room with some kind of disclosure letting people know what they are getting into. What kind of touchy feely place needs to make sure that nobodys feelings get hurt. I agree with Lig, this is a "community" if we can talk about movies, and other cars, and other "off topic" ideas, then why can't we just talk about politics. If you want I can talk about views on abortion, and gay marriage if you prefer. J/K But come on, let us have a place to talk. I would be willing to have civil debates, where all kinds of demographics could compare ideas. Liberals, moderates, conservatives, aliens, whatever

vananron, liggy and anyone else that cares to listen,

I understand exactly what you are saying. Personally, I welcome political conversation, as it's part of my daily life at work and I definitely have opinions (some educated, some emotional) on a broad range of issues.

However, that said, it has been stated in the past that politics and religion are taboo on s2ki because they tend to be excessively controversial.

If debates could be guaranteed to be relatively civil, that would be one thing, but that has proven to rarely be the case...though it HAS happened.

From the perspective of a moderator, this would be quite difficult to moderate without further being branded as partisan if we moderated such a forum.

I'm usually willing to give latitude to dissenting opinions, but when a thread...ANY thread...shows signs of heading in the direction of being inflamatory I will step in.

That's what happened in this thread and that is why I originally closed it.

The internet is a vast place. There are MANY places to go and talk about any controversial topic that you can imagine. Many topics are fair game here...we're just asking for restraint regarding a couple and that seems more than fair to me.

Politics, religion and money=really bad things to discuss because everyone has very strong opinions on them and many times they are inflammatory. I strongly agree with c3 that Politics really don't have a place on s2ki.com

I did not mean you directly with the word "threaten", I meant that it was a threat to the website, because it would possibly turn people away, therefore not be inclined to buy a membership, such as myself. If this was a true "community" then I would be willing to purchase a full membership. I think that the wording should be adjusted, otherwise, people might get the wrong idea. Look everybody has strong opinions, when I have gone to all of the meets here in Sac. there is always some sort of political speech, I have never had a problem.

vananron,

Not sure why you want to beat this dead horse, but I guess I'm game.

You seem to be saying that a community is a place where any person can say or do whatever they want. I find it hard to believe that, with that definition, a person could EVER find a community. In my experiences in living and interacting with communities all over the internet and all over the world, they ALL have certain rules that you must follow. There are always topics that aren't welcome or acts that are shunned.

This is no different. This is a rule that cthree set in place long before most of us every showed up and it is precisely rules like that that have helped to keep the peace for the last three years. Well, more peace than there probably would have been otherwise, at least...

This site is replete with free exchanges of thoughts and ideas on more topics than I care to list. The community is strong and vibrant...even without discussing politics.
