Atkins diet - wow!
I've always said I can't live without rice for more than 48 hours. However, pressure from surrounding family members made me think of a way to go on a diet without starving myself or get into exercise regiments I rarely have the determination to go through, so I tried out this Atkins diet. I've had very little carbs in the past week with my meals comprised of mostly meat, eggs, lots of vegetables, lots tofu, etc. (think shabu-shabu without the rice and ice cream) for a week now, and all I can say is WOW! I eat more than before, yet in the first week I lost about 11 pounds, so for the first time in quite a while I'm below the 200 mark.
Has anyone else tried this? I'm almost afraid because I've lost that many pounds so quickly...

If you lost 11 pounds in a week it's mostly water. According to my medical practitioner family members the most fat a human can sustainably lose is about 1kg (just over 2 pounds) per week. That's if you reduce your energy intake to subsistence levels.
I've heard and actually have seen some reults from this type of diet. Not on myself, mind you, although I need to lose about 40+ lbs. Hmmm, wonder what got me this heavy?
I've seen folks really trim down. I need to try this and incorporate an excersize regimine. I hate felling the way I do and I know it's not healthy. I'm going to start this tomorrow.
We should have some weight-loss thread here where we can track our progress and be a support team for one another.

The keto diet is very dangerous. Your brain needs 6g per hour to function properly, thats 144g of carbs a day. The only time you have carbs is post workout to replenish glycogen levels. By you eating all those veggies, it is likely your body is not even in ketosis. All you are probably doing is losing a lot of water from eating very little carbs and losing a lot of muscle as well. Also, if you aren't eating enough calories, your body will go into starvation mode, meaning your metabolism will slow down and whatever you do is more likely going to get stored as fat.
I suggest you go on 80%fat, 20% protein split where 80% of your foods is fat and 20% is protein. Drink plenty of water to stay hydrated, at least a gallon a day. I am guessing you aren;t eating enough calories too, be careful....

A good plan for me may be to start an excersize program to get my heart rate up. The word for this escapes me at this moment but I can start to burn calories quickly and then begin building muscle.
My understanding (from what I have been told) is that having more muscle will increase your metabolism.
Oh. . .yeah, that word that escaped me earlier is cardio-vascular.

Remember the worst thing you can do when trying to lose weight is suddenly add cardio and drop your calories together at the same time. I suggest you break your meals to 6-10 smaller meals, and add cardio. Then after a week of cardio, SLOWLY lower calories and carbs until you get 500 below the maintenance level of calories yor body needs to retain the current weight...
Watching what you eat and plenty of exercise is the best remedy. I learned to eat whatever the hell i want during the day, but dinner time, avoid rice and carbs, and just eat the veggies and meat. I hated exercising, but i took Xenadrine and that gave me PLENTY of energy and just made me WANT to exercise, use up all that energy I had. I was like the energizer bunny on prozac or something. Whenever I took it, I could run 3-4miles easily. But now that I'm more self motivated to work out, I don't take it anymore. Anyway, let's just say that I lied about my weight back when I got my permit, and now...my weight on my license is actually correct.
