Out of interest, are you still on the diet now?

First let me state that I am a big proponent of Atkins. It took me about 6 months to loose about 45 lbs. That was 4 years ago and yes I have kept it off. My motivation is it is to expensive to buy a new wardrobe. Went from a 36" waist to a 32" waist.
With that being said my comment to all who want to try Atkins is first READ THE BOOK! This tells you what you need to do and know. If you talk to people all you will get is a lot of tall tales about the diet. Secondly, in the new Atkins, he calculates carbs differently than he did in prior editions. Carbs that are from fiber and sugar alcohol do not count as blood sugar carbs. For example the Advantage bar has a total of 21 carbs but only 2 count as sugar carbs.
Once you are past the induction phase, 20 carb regimen, you can raise your carb intake depending on how fast you want to loose weight. You are told not to stay on the induction diet for more than two weeks.
At this point if I gain some weight, e.g., 5 pounds, I make an effort to take it off as soon as possible. It is just a logical control of your weight and diet. I do eat Mexican, Italian, TexMex, fruit, veggies, salads, cake, candy, etc. As a side note any hard liquor contains 0 carbs

Not a rant just some thoughts

Yes, I am on a high protein, moderate carb, moderate fat diet. I lift weights so I have to preserve lean body mass. I hope to get down to 8-10% by about May and keep that until October and then bulk to 15% then cut and repeat. My source of carbs are oatmeal, veggies, and beans. The ONLY time I have any sugar is post workout to replenish my glycogen stores. For protein I eat tuna, protein shakes, chicken and for fats I eat naturall peanut butter, flax seed oil, salmon and the likes. You may not believe, but in order to help lose fat, you gotta eat more fat, more Essential Fatty Acids that is. I have cut out all dairy products due to water retention and too much sugar. I have also cut out bread, but when I did eat bread it was 100% whole wheat. I have also cut out all junk, soda, alcohol, fruits, and anything high glycemic.

i did this diet. about 2 years ago in the summer i was about 17. i was about 260ish. i did this part out of anger. i was going to a 5 star basketball camp and i was a point guard. and they said i was to big. so i got mad and did this diet i worked out everyday and wore a plastic garbage bag makes you sweat more. well i got down to 180 within 2-3 months it works but there also a bad side.. all that meat and grease not good for heart. if you don't have the supply of food you will get light headed very quickly and those unwanted marks from losing so much weight that quickly. a low carb i would say to try!! that's the best of both worlds it just about controll!!

Can you tell me the benefit of dropping body fat and then buling and cutting and repeating ?? I have never understood this concept ?

Do you not find that your diet means your range of foods is very limited? I used to work with a guy who was the British Amateur Body Building Champion a few years back, and I admired his dedictation to the sport, but I could just never see myself being able to stick to a regime that was as limited as his ....

It is very important to find something that you are comfortable doing otherwise you are not going to be able to stick to it long term .....

Good luck on your programme, I admire anyone with the drive to stick to something like this

TJ, for some people looking good is better than eating good For Mingster, I think it's for health reasons. Good for him.
