Audiophiles should probably NOT read this. . . *nsfu*
Silverstoned04,
Yup, that CDP is over 10 years old and does well as a transport now feeding the dAck! outboard DAC. Ironic in that the digital-analog converter design I'm using is what is now embraced by Audio Note, Conrad-Johnson, etc in their newest super expensive offerings -
As stated in my linked system description I've been putting this together for literally decades and there are vintage components still serving well. I upgrade when the technology has jumped that far ahead or when continued tweaks/repairs of a component have reached the point where they don't pass the sanity check. The driver in my subwoofer is that used in '74 in movie houses for the film "Earthquake." Moves a LOT of air, no false boominess, etc., and still holds it's own very well against new subs in speed, attack, low reach, distortion. Best of all it synergizes with my modified Maggies extremely well. The vintage Tandberg reel deck and Nakamichi Dragon cassette deck may represent outdated technology but they both were very well respected units of their type. Had them for years and they still give great performance. Great reel recordings are still amazing as are great LPs on that vintage Merrill modified turntable -
And yeah "silly" in that there is an absence of WAF* hehehehe. I'm an aging ex-single parent (the kids have long left the nest) so I can do what I damned well please in putting "toys" where I want.
So, nope. Not state of the art. But very very capable and pleasing which is what audio is really all about.

PS WAF= wife approval factor

If the other comments were directed my way:
- absolutely I play vinyl using either of two Denon very low output moving coil carts (DL-103D and DL-304)
- The 18" sub is in the commode in the rear left corner
What link didn't work? To the audio asylum?

Hey Silverstoned,

It looks like you've got a composite video cable and a couple of audio cables running into what appears to be the component video input of your projector. You may want to look at putting cables of the proper impedance in the place of those 50ohm audio cables (the composite cable is fine at 75ohm).

Bob, I love the maggies. They will be my next speaker. Here are some pics of my system. http://www.geocities.com/jerryiii_ht/

Jerry,
First how do you like your Parasound HCA-2003A?
Second, I assume you've heard Magneplanars. Which model are you lookimg at getting? Just wondered if you were going with their home theater system or a straight two channel set.
Best!

Bob,
I absolutely love the Parasound HCA-2003A. Not only does it sound great, it is also one of the best values out there.
I heard a very well set up pair of MG20.1's running on all Levinson electronics and was instantly hooked on the Maggie sound. The MG20 is a bit too pricey for me so I am looking at the 1.6 or a used pair of 3.6. This will be for a new 2-channel rig separate from the HT rig. I assume that those are MG-20's in your room. Do you have any problems with that brick hearth behind them? It looks to be a pretty live room.
