Iron Works BBQ, right by the convention center. If you get near Lake Travis, it's a tourist trap but the views are awesome ..... http://www.oasis-austin.com/

Austin has everything. I really wouldn't mind living there.

I was retorting to s2kvince's comment about living there. the scene that goes on is pretty stereotypical, so a sweeping generalization isn't too far off.

but never mind the fact that I visit there with some frequently, or have had more than a few friends live there over the years.

....you know what, I probably don't know what I'm talking about.

actually, there is this place you should check out: ski shores cafe

I'm usually drunk while in Austin, so I'm probably not in the best state of mind to determine the liveability of a city.

I agree that the scenesters could get quite annoying on a daily basis. I guess you could always take pleasure in knowing that life is going to suck for them when they graduate and realize their art degree isn't worth much outside their clique. At least they'll have a record shop or book store to be snobbish in.

In Jan. '01, I moved back home after living in Austin for two years.

I still miss it damn near every day. If you get the chance to move there, do it and stay.

lots of snobs? have you even lived there? apparently you like to believe stuff that's been rumored. austin is great, i'm not saying it's the greatest but it sure is fun, lots to do.. yes, like every other city, we have douche bags, but if that bothers you, you might as well go to san francisco, i'm sure you'll fit in just fine.

as for girls? come on, ALL girls are easy, you just need to know your way around them. you may not be able to hook up with a sorority chick as they tend to be betches, but you have a variety to choose from.. asians, indians ( not native indians ), whites, hispanics, black, etc...
