Default auto industry

Does anybody know of any good automobile techincal schools. If anybody here works for an aftermarket company or dealership I would be very iterested in what qualifications you were asked to have. Im asking because I would really love to persue a career in the automobile industry. Preferable aftermarket companies and tuning shops. Would appreciate if someone could give some places to start or some ideas.

Most aftermarket companies are small affairs, often with 1 or 2 people (the founders) handling all the technical work. I'd think that the larger ones probably wouldn't be interested in a kid out of college with a piece of paper - they'd probably look for someone who has been working on cars and tuning them and whatnot. Of course a degree in mechanical engineering (or something else pertinent) wouldn't hurt.

If you just wanted to be a wrench-turner at a shop, try and get into a dealership service department, and eventually earn your SAE certification. From there you could probably move onto working in a tuner shop, though this path may take some time to get into.

Good luck
