"From its origins as a small motorcycle maker in 1946, Honda has become the second-largest carmaker in Japan, surpassing Nissan in calendar year sales for the first time ever.
Honda sold 754,818 vehicles in 2000, up 9.8 percent from the previous year. Nissan sold 729,737 vehicles, down by 5.7 percent.
Toyota sold 1,763,595 vehicles, up 6.5 percent, easily retaining its top spot."

Toyota must have one hell of an advertising budget in Japan. I can't imagine how they've hung on to #1 for so long, especially since Honda has made so many innovative technological advancements; which is what the average Japanese consumer adores.
It's just a matter of time before Honda becomes #1.
