When tring to match a mating pair make sure your ph is dead on, for some reason discus get cranky when they are out of a very small window of ph and temperature, lighting will also come in to play if you keep them in direct sunlight as they will get confused if you have incandecent's as well.
But the best trick of all is the styrofoam cup attached to the bottom of the tank. I believe for some reason they like the texture when laying their egg's.
