Tom,

Hate to disappoint you, but as I've been telling several of my friends that are huge Mets fans. . .

Its a Yankees world, live with it. . .

The Mets should be good, but I'm still not convinced they'll be able to beat the Braves or possibly the Rockies (if Neagle works out). . .

And, if by some chance they do get to the series (and that's a big IF), they still have to deal with the boys from the Bronx (who have the best pitching staff in the majors) or possibly the kids from Oakland (who have the best hitting team in the majors, as well as an under-rated pitching staff). . .

Sorry to burst your bubble. . .

In words of John Sterling. . . "Ballgame over!!!! World Series over!!!! The Yankees Win!!! The Yankees WINNNN!!!!!

I have to agree with ICEMAN666.

except for the part of the A's having the best hitting team. They may hit more HR than the yankees but the yankees (IMHO) have the best lineup 1 thru 9. not to mention the greatest pitching staff ever assembled. All four of our guys a #1 starters with the best closer in the game right now in Rivera and solid middle relief. who can beat the yankees in a best of 7?

what i want to know is what happened to all the critics who said the yankees had no chance of beating the younger and hungier mets last season in the world series? i called yankees in a sweep and was off by one game...perhaps cause we wanted to win at home is my call.

they yankees have no great superstar. just great players at every position. and everyone is a contributor...hell every luis sojo contributes for crying out loud.

Mets biggest problem is that bum for a coach Bobby Valentine. The guy is horrible and has no clue what he's doing. 2 years ago the mets should have beaten the braves but in the bottom of the ninth with runner on second and 2 outs the man left ray ordonez in to bat. the guy couldn't hit a single in Teeball let alone against the braves pitching staff. that is just one example of his bad coaching...throw in not taking al leiter out against the yankees when he was obviously tiring with the mets solid bullpen it should have been a no brainer except for valentine.

the yankees are simply too strong now and i'm not saying it's going to last forever but like the chicago bulls, so long as they keep that solid core of players together they're going to win it all for a long time. also having a 100million + payroll doesn't hurt =)

Swurlydel,

To be clear I AM a DIE HARD Yankees fan. . . I just put the Oakland thing in there to illustrate this point. . .

The Mets have a LOT to overcome in order to win a World Series this year. . .

Bottomline, I think I'll be making several trips on the Major Degan & GWB to see October baseball at the stadium

And I'll probably be looking out the window of my 20th floor Broadway office at another Yankees parade later this year. . .

by superstar i mean a great marque type player or franchise type player...i think the yankees have great players don't get me wrong but there's no pedro martinez on the pitching staff...there's no sammy sosa/ mark mcquire homerun hitter. Jeter is great but i don't think he's a superstar he's a great player...good on the field...300 hitter 20 homer type guy...far from A-Rod numbers. Rivera can be considered the best at his position but i don't think a closer has ever been a superstar. if you look at the yankees and try to name the best guy it's hard as hell...give me another world series contender and i'll tell you right away who he is...you know what i mean?

Its obvious the Yankees are still the odds on favorite to win it all. . . However, I just want to clarify that the Boys from the Bronx have several stars & superstars on their team. . .

Jeter - Superstar (check his stats)
B. Williams - Superstar (better stats than K. Griffey Jr. in every category except for home runs)
M. Rivera - Superstar (nuff said)
Clemens - Still a Superstar
Petite - May not appear to be a Superstar, but he is (check the STATS!!!)
D. Justice - Superstar when healthy & happy. . . Star the rest of the time. . .
El Duque - Star++
Jorge Posada - Star. . . Will be a superstar before its all over. . .
O'Neill - Star. . . Not a bright as he was a couple of years ago, but still better than average at his position. . .
Chuck K. - Still a Star. . . Before the season is over, people will be comparing his switch from the infield to the outfield to the one Robin Yount made. . .
Brosius - Fielding Superstaar, Batting below average (but, he's ALWAYS been a clutch performer)
T. Martinez - Star. . . Obvious below average at his position (but look at his competition), However, I think he'll disprove a lot of nay-sayers this season. . .

Let's GO Yankees!!!!
