For baseball fans
A superstar isn't all about stats...superstar includes how marketable a player is. You think they talk about bernie williams, clemens, justice everywhere else like we hear about a-rod/griffey/bonds/mcguire/sosa etc etc., we have great players at every position which is what makes us winners. we don't need all that song and dance that other teams need. I'm not saying that their stats aren't all-star caliber but to be a superstar means more than that it also means marketablity. Eventhough Jeter is a top 3 shortstop he probably wouldn't be talked about as much as garciapara or a-rod if he didn't have 4 championships with the Yankees you know. The yankees are truly a superstar based team with the likes of Mantle, Gehrig, Ruth, Dimaggio, Bera.
p.s. unless we're talking about ozzie smith, fielding does not a superstar make. ala rey ordonez....he sucks...got injured and no one could careless now. brosius is washed up...he was great when he was batting 300 but at 240 and under we could easily get someone else to fill his role.
Swury and Ice,
First off, I hate the Yankees and the Mets, but I'm a lonely Phillies fan though (3-0) mired in Piscataway having to watch the Yankees on FOX and MSG and the black screen of death for the Mets. Sorry, can't see the Mets play unless you pay. Please!!
Anyway, just wanted to contribute, Jeter IS a superstar. No two ways about it. Also, Roger Clemens could be the GREATEST pitcher of all time, and he's not a superstar. Please. Just because he isn't as good as he was earlier in his career doesn't mean he still isn't a superstar. What does he have, 4-6 Cy Youngs on the shelf.
Ice, sorry, but you being a die hard Yankee fan has blinded you somewhat. Brosius sucks, he had one good year his whole career and it just happened to be as a Yankee. Also, I love when the Andy Pettite bandwagon starts to roll. This guy has a high career ERA and if he didn't get run support like he does, he would be awful. Hence the reason he was almost traded to the Phillies two years ago. He would have been also, if the Yankees could have acquired the pitcher they were looking for that year. Knoblauch, I'm not going to say a word. If you can't make the easiest throw in baseball, you are not a star!!
Yankees still the best team in baseball, and I don't think you will see the Mets in the playoffs. They are going to miss Hampton!!

the throw from second to first isn't always the easiest. the short distance and the need to sometimes have to gun it into the first baseman make it tricky. almost like a come back hit to the pitcher...not always as easy as it seems...easiest play in baseball...the fly ball which leads me to believe todd hundley sucks...even little leaguers can catch a pop fly...that guy cracked me up when he missed what? 4 flies in 2 games? that was horrible
Jeter is a superstar only because he won 4 championships with the yankees. if he was anywhere else is 300avg and 20hrs would be eclipsed by a-rod garciaparra larkin etc etc...he's also in a big market city which helps out his cause...he if anything is a superstar but i wouldn't say he's the best guy on the yankees...they don't have a best guy cause they're all great...usually superstars are heads and shoulders above the rest of their team making them standouts.
p.s. my condolenses for being a philly fan...in any sport...no one should be subject to that...only in philly can your team be good and a league leader yet still not win it all.

One thing I hated the most about Clemens being on the roster is the suggestion that there may be a superstar on the roster. He doesn't belong to the team.
Cocky players usually belong to the red sox

I can't imagine Roger would go in as anything but a RedSox. As far as Jeter is concerned he is paid as a superstar, his stats if placed over 15-20 years will get him in the hall. He is a superstar. Compared to Arod and Nomar maybe not as good but that's a tough group to go against. If Jeter played in the NL he would hands down be the best Shortstop in the league. Larkin is not as good offensively look up the numbers.
No doubt the Yank's are the odds on favorites to win it all this year.
Having said that, let's all remember that this is baseball and anything can and will happen. The Mets have the talent, they have the esprit de corp. They might take it.
Even if they don't it will be damned exciting.
Da Hapa-
Sad to say but S. Cal. born and raised and an Angels fan 'til I die. (I know, I know... they are going to suck again this year. Save your chastising posts for someone else. At least I am loyal). The fiance, on the other hand, is born and raised in NYC and she has infected me with Mets fever.
Let's go Mets!!!!
