Yeah, but you have to get it to price above $999. And that doesn't count any other deals (mail in rebates, instant rebates), so of Dell is offering $200 off, you have to go from the +$200 price.

Find someone who attends a state college, most have some sort of student discount available to computers and software.

IMO, dell is the walmart of the computer world.

they used to be the cadillac of computers, now they are the Hyundai.

They are plenty reliable and all. Just don't expect them to be fast.
You know what they say about opinions...

For the money, DELL is king.

See if there are any 8400's left. I bought one just after they launched top-of-the-line 9100 series few weeks ago and got a great deal plus free shipping which took 2 days. Dont get any of DELL's bells and whistles. They break even on the CPU box and then reel you in with the accessories and services.

I mean my current Dell...the inspiron something lasted me over 5 years since 1999 and its still running...Its on like 24/7 and I did some ahrd drive tests on it and its running strong. Hopefully my new dell will be just as good Thats why I'm more leaned toward dell right now.

Purchased the neighbor a shitbox for watching my dog these last couple of weeks. Emachine from Bestbuy for 330 bucks sans monitor. 2.8G CeleryD. 80 Gig (5400 no doubt) drive, XP Home, 48X CDRW. 10/100NIC etc etc.

No doubt all total crap hardware but after some cleanup a surprisingly good box for what he uses it for, office apps and web access. Anything was better than his crap P3 running 98. I was going to clean his box and after 5 minutes realized just buying a new shitbox was the way to go.

For myself I have only ever built my own. Current main box is a watercooled P4 -- with icky brown fluid instead of green now ...

Not a big fan of Dell -- most of the office machines I have seen have gone south with random hardware failures. Coincidence? Maybe. I have a Dell XPS2 laptop and the case around the screen is already seperating after two months.
