I usually build my own because I like the computing power and I like to do video editing and ripping and stuff... Here is a pretty cool site that has coupons and stuff, it is updated daily and I bought my wide screen lcd on it:

Go to www.dealcatcher.com or www.digitaldeals.net and you'll see a bunch of SB Dell Deals giving you the dell9100 for 599 with a 17"lcd. They have a deal now where you can get a 24"
LCD with the 9100 for only 1199. That's an unreal deal!!
Another deal with the 9100 and a 20"LCD yields a price of only 849.
Granted, it is only 512ram and 40gb HD, but for what the OP listed as the comps primary purpose, these specs are more than enough.
At only 599 you can easily add your on crap for a few hundred bucks.

pretty good deal.
I think I'll start with Battlefield Vietnam, it actually looks a pretty cool game its just that BF2 came out and took many of the players. Then ill get BF2 the same time. Those are the only game ill probably use sinceim not much of a gamer, im using my comp as a multiedia platform mainly and for work which is why the 9100 was perfect for me
I just think its a lil crazy that some people are spending hundreds and thousands $$ to play one game "bf2". Its like the hardware manfacturers are in conjunction with EA, upgade youer system to insane levels or you can't play....I mean from what I've read the game is not perfect so if your going to have those insane specs then the game should be the best graphics ever which it doesnt seem like. I'll pay it still since I convenantly got a new comp. Also in the big terms of things it might not be a big deal since us car owners spend $$ on mods but for one game I wouldnt upgrade my comp

what kind of graphics did you get with the PC?
if it is the intel graphics or anything less than a geforceFX5700 or ATI radeon9600, forget BF2.
The intel graphics hardly plays anything. For BF Vietnam, the standard Dell ATI X300 that comes with the Dimension 9100 MIGHT play it.
The X300 will probably not play BF2. The only up-option is the Geforce6800 and ATI X850XT which rock.

actually I did alot of research on it, 128mb x300 does play and is compatible with BF2. Many people still use a x300 since it comes with dells. Since I have over 1 gig ram and 3.0 + ghz the best I will get is only a medium from the reports of other people using a x300. Or you can mix high, lows and medium and turn off shadowd etc tons of ways to play with a constant 40fps on the card.
Also go over to EA.com or any BF2 forum and they will list that the x300 will play BF2. Its a good overall video card for many apps, multimedia etc maybe not the best for gaming but I'm not going to fork over $$$$ just to play BF2 when medium settings will suit me just fine
