Best place to buy Flat screen?
I have heard a report (and forgive me but I can't remember the exact details) that due to a technology production "breakthrough" either plasma or LCD tvs are going to drop by 1/5 the price within the next 3 years. Anyone know or have any more info on this?
I have a 50" Samsung DLP and it was SPECTACULAR in HD during the superbowl. The 50" runs about $3400 online. They do make a 43" that should be closer to your price range. They sell these at BestBuy and Circuit City so you can check them out there then buy them online. Plasma & LCD still wins in the size and coolness factors. But DLP is a little cheaper, not as big as a CRT, and the big thing... no burn in. Even with a 16x9 set a large portion of programming and movies will still have black bars on the top or sides.
I bought mine here. They do a lot of business with AVSFourm members and appear to be well respected.

Since you live in VA, go to the nearest Tweeter store. They sell all of the products suggested above, and their salespeople actually know what they're talking about. As far as your reservations on plasma, they are groundless. Plasma gets a bad rap, but it is actually one of the most dependable types of displays available. They last for approx 10-15 yrs, and all the "gas" problems floating around are basically untrue. You don't have to tiptoe around them, just hang it on the wall and move on with your life!
As far as buying online, unless its from a mecha-saler, like Crutchfield, I wouldn't do it. Get it from an actual store, and give yourself the peace of mind. You may save a few bucks, but if you have any problems, you're usually screwed. Just a little friendly advice from a fellow A/V enthusiast.

P.S. - places like www.shadytvsales.com should not even be CONSIDERED!
