Best way to find a new job?
I have just recently turned 30 and now I'm unemployed. I have been job searching for a month now and I'm not having any luck at all. Does anyone have any advice or suggestions on the best way to go about finding a decent job that does not involve retail. I live in Lexington KY so if anyone can help me out in anyway at all that would be awesome. I know it's a bit random to ask about a job here but thats where I'm at now.

What skills and experience do you bring to the table, and what have you tried thus far? Monster, careerbuilder, jobs.com? Networking with previous coworkers/friends/family? Recruiters/headhunters/contract agencies?

ask your friends and relatives if their companies are hiring. in my opinion that's the best way to get an in. they should be happy to do it too (as long as you're qualified) cuz companies usually have referral bonuses!
other than that...i used a headhunter when i needed to find a job. worked out very well but i wonder how much of my salary went to them.

Keep looking, don't give up. Go for the opportunities with more fervour than your competitiors, and you will prevail.Too many people say they can't find a job, when in truth they aren't trying hard enough. I'm not saying this is you, I'm just speaking generally. The jobs are out there.

Many times, it's not what you know, but who you know. Network.

Networking is your best friend. Let everyone you have ever known, both socially and professionally, that you have been laid off and are looking for employment. Given the current economy, they all know they could be next and will be more than willing to offer any assistance they can.
If you were a professional or worked in a trade, join their respective associations. These associations hold networking events.
Personally, I would not spend alot of effort going through job sites.

That's you competition. They sit around the house and watch TV. They might, on an ambitious day, send a few chain resume/cover letters which will be ignored.
Finding a job is depressing as hell, just get out there and do it.
