jet propusion lab sounds more interesting to me.
sure its a bit less money after std of living and all, but that difference in money is pretty small compared to how much you like going in to work every day and whether or not you like life outside of work.
where are your interests, and what are the job descriptions? i assume engineering?

Pasadena's geographical location is amazing but with that traffic, getting to the coast is probably more of a headache than its worth.
My hobbies consists of working on my car(prob obvious) and soccer. I'd probably get into more outdoorsy stuff regardless of which locale I end up at b/c they both offer some cool things to do outside.
well, i'm assuming it's warmer in pasadena more than it is in greenville for longer (good for the drop top). if you like pasadena more as a locale then i'd say go there. i don't know anything about either job but they both sound pretty good, so me personally i'd use living environment as my deciding factor.
if both jobs turn out to be the suck...then at least you'd want something else to fall back on, right? outdoors, better nightlife (just a guess, no idea), better weather, etc.
oh yeah, and since you're just starting out, i'd say don't factor in the money all that much. it's not all that important in the grand scheme of things!

I was born in Spartanburg/Greenville area granted the area is no San Fran but it does have it's moments.. if I knew then what I know now... I would work for the money and retire as early as possible... life is short and the sooner you retire the better.. Greenville, SC is about 1-2 hours away from some wonderful out door spots. For one you've got the Dragon, Biltmore house, and all the mountains you could ever want. for two it's about an 1-2 hours away from Atlanta which has a very good nightlife and liberal culture so to speak... all in all the location is great....for both sea and mountains.
For the job aspect GE Energy seems to be trying to produce some cuttin edge shit when it comes to making the world "green" and if the projects only last for 8 months the you'll never get bored doing the same project over and over... but hell what do I know I'm almost forty, make lower ok money and I'm in the middle of a life slump..... only you can truly decide.

Single, Asian, Liberal. Hmmmm there aren't any people like that in So Cal. Trust me on this. Since you said the jobs are essentially the same I advise you 100% to pick JPL. You may have less in the beginning, but while living in your hovel driving your civic you'll have the best life. There will be guys similar to you who you'll be able to relate to. You'll be able to find cultural Asian food, the women of different types will like you as opposed to the Southern women..
If you move to SC, a state that not too long ago fought to be able to fly the rebel flag on their capital, you'll really miss out on a chance for great experience in life.

I have a friend who works for GE there for 1.5yrs. Never visited him but in talking with him, it's not a place he wants to spend a whole lot of time. He is just using it as a stepping stone to masters and out of there. He also is a GT grad ('08).
honestly i suggest GE
here's why: ge is a huge comapany with the probability of advancement
i'm not sure who the JPL is for, and yes it's a dream job for some people, but you have to consider your opportunities, like is there room for advancement, benefits etc, etc, etc

Thats the biggest reason as to why I want to be in SoCal....I've lived in the south since I've been in the states (14 years) and I still feel out of place.
But SoCal is definitely tempting but GE seems like the responsible career move....decisions decisions...haha I'm glad I have you guys here
