Default Boston Marathon - 4:53 per mile average!

2:07.14 was the time...... if i calculated it properly.... that is about a 4:53 mile average!!!

That is insane. The average person cannot even run a single 6:00 mile.....

Only for endurance and fitness people. However, I have run a mile under six minutes before just not for a freaking marathon! Kudos to those that can do it.

Wow that's nuts. The fastest I have ever run is three miles in 22 minutes and I thought I was booking. Then again, I'm hardly the natural runner, always been a natural cyclist. Around the same time I ran once with this girl who wasn't in the best looking shape, not bad, just not runner looking. Probably 5'7" and 145 lbs or so. She kicked my ass in running. Some people are just born to be running fools. I remember back in 8th grade there was this kid who would constantly run 6 minute miles. I saw him a months ago for the first time in about 10 years, damn he is fat, but I have a feeling he can out run me.

I ran a 5:02 mile right after college...... just 1.... to think of someone running almost 10 seconds faster for every mile of a marathon is nuts.

currently i would have to practice to get under 6:00 for a mile....

I'd just jump in the S and average a 30 second mile!

The fastest I've ever run a mile and a half for the Military was 7:25 seconds. Thats equates to about 4:82 seconds per mile. I was running fast.... I can't imagine maintaining an even faster pace for that long...

Couldn't do it.... Would love to do it...... would try to do it..... but couldn't do it.

the time is made more impressive because he had no one to push him for several miles at the end.
I maxed out at 5:58 on a track mile run once, well, a long time ago. In 1983, I ran Boston as a bandit at the back of the pack and turned in a 3:59, that's three hours and fifty nine minutes. (It was the second of 5 marathons I did back in the day.)
The course is difficult because you start downhill and have to try to control the excitement. Then at 20 miles you climb for maybe two miles before having to go downhill again into Boston proper. That kills your quadriceps.
On the other hand, running through the co-eds at Wellesly College is quite the high!
