don't really get the appeal besides the cro mag savagery. i understand that there is lots of endurance and technique, but it ends up looking like 2 dudes hugging for 36 mins. so much hype, etc.

any thoughts

I think if two dudes are going to beat up on each other, they should be able to use their legs. Mixed Martial Arts. If you're going to do it, do it right!

While MMA has become the new craze, the technical aspect of boxing, and its history, is pretty interesting.

If you think boxing is 'gay', wouldn't you have to admit that MMA is much more homosexual looking with guys fully mounting each other, and not doing much in the way of trying to get strikes off. Especially in lower trained arenas and venues, you will oftentimes see a match 15 minutes long with men mounted all over each other doing nothing but grunting and maneuvering, because neither is talented enough, yet, to pull off any great submission.

Did you see the Mayweather-Hatton fight? What did you think?

Seen any of the old great boxing matches of the 60s,70s and 80s?

I watched the Mayweather-Hatton fight and I was again truly impressed with Mayweather. I couldn't stand his arrogance before and leading up to the fight, then I remembered how great of a boxer he actually was.

I'm more of a kickboxing fan but I know real talent when I see it, that's why I was glued to the tube of that fight.

The Huerta/Guida fight on spike was MUCH more entertaining then the Mayweather fight IMO. One of the best fights I've ever seen actually.

I give those guys a lot of respect both boxing and MMA. They sacrifice their bodies and risk their lives out there. Its really dangerous and I know I probably won't ever do any sort of boxing, amateur, sparing or what have you.

A freshman on our campus died a little over a week ago from boxing. Him and a buddy of his were sparring in full gloves and head protection. He took a body shot in the narrow space when the heart is in rest and between electrical signals and it sent his heart into an arrhythmia (they didn't say which one, probably V-fib. Basically what happens to lacrosse players that die on the field when they get hit in the chest). Our award winning student run ambulance corps got the call as difficulty breathing and in a few minutes from their base on campus to his room he was already gone. In front of of his suite mates and friends too.
