camcoder vs slim camera

I hear mixed comments about how long it can actually record on a 2gb memory card. anywhere from 2 min~ 30 min with 720p.
is that somewhat similar to camcoders?
If i go with canon, i'd seriously have to consider buying 32g memory.

I borrowed my friend's JVC hhd camcoder and let me tell you!
with the protection on, I could not record almost anything at all!!!
I even put couple of thin layers underneath the mount, but obviously that did not help at all. I tried to place a towel under the compartment in hope to absorb some of the impact or vibration, but no luck.
Im getting the Canon TX1!
