Can someone help me out?
It does look like they have a point, it does indeed look like it came from a fast food restaurant. It's not an eyesore, per se, but that looks like a pretty nice pad, the table looks out of place, like paper napkins at a formal dinner.
Yes, patio furniture is labeled as such. Go to Target or something for the cheaper alternatives. The house will look much better with real patio furniture vs. the table you now have. Put your table in the garage, and only bring it out when you want to use it, that ought to keep everyone happy, and save you from having to write a letter.

You WON'T win this one, so ditch the table. The more you fight, the worse it will get for you. This is one of the joys of living with covenants, but it ensures that everyone has their values intact. If they have to teach you good taste the hard way, they will do it. When you get a little older, you won't think this is too classy either. My 19 year old stepsons think a couch in the yard looks good, too.!
I just finished a two year term as an HOA president and had to deal with a few issues such as this (one which ended up in the Alaska Supreme Court).
From my experience, it depends on what exactly your convents allow, or more importantly expressly disallow. Most HOAs will have an "architectural review committee" to approve additions or police the convents in this regard. If you wanted to protest this, I would request which section of the HOA covenant they feel is being violated. If you think that the HOA's interpretation is too subjective, I would hire council.
That said, HOA covenants are not there to oppress you, in this case they are there to maintain the aesthetics of your community, which can also maintain your property value. Everyone wins, unless they are complete jerks about it in which case I'd protest, drag my feet, and make it difficult....before I replaced that ugly ass schoolroom lunch table!
