they're basically delaying shipping of DVDs if they think you rent too much....send them a message that dishonest marketing shouldn't be rewarded. i put my account on 90 day hold.

Pluh-leese.
How are they "dishonest"? It's clearly spelled out in their Terms Of Use...

The dude in the article you linked to was quoted as saying he used to get 20+ dvds a month! They would lose money on that deal just on the shipping back and forth. Of course they try to curtail abusers. They would be out of business otherwise.

In determining priority for shipping and inventory allocation, we give priority to those members who receive the fewest DVDs through our service. As a result, those subscribers who receive the most movies may experience that (i) the shipment of their next available DVD occurs at least one business day following return of their previously viewed movie, (ii) delivery takes longer, as the shipments may not be processed from their local distribution center and (iii) they receive movies lower in their queue more often than our other subscribers. Other factors that may affect delivery times, include, but are not limited to, (i) the distance between the distribution center from which your DVD was shipped and your delivery address, (ii) the timing of your placement or adjustment of movies in your queue and (iii) circumstances impacting delivery by the U.S. Postal Service.

FYI, Blockbuster mail does this too. I have it and when I was renting a ton of movies, the shipping mysteriously slowed down.
They would show receipt on my movies and then delay shipment of the new movies by 2-3 days.
The service should not be marketed as an unlimited service if they artificially delay shipment. That's BS. You can go to the b&m shops and get their unlimited service without any bs restrictions.

Both advertise unlimited rentals on a monthly plan...what part of unlimited don't either of the vendors understand? That's the loudest thing you hear on their commercials, and it's their biggest push point. In all honesty I believe that they were looking for people to only rent maybe 5 or 6 movies a month at most.
That's exactly it. And when they started, DVD copying wasn't as widespread. This is a knee jerk reaction to curb those that abuse the system to develop a dvd library illegaly.
Oh well. I still stay with BB since they offer the "unlimited" plan AND they give you coupons for one free rental in their B&M stores per week. That's a pretty decent deal for 17.99/mo. I can rent approx. 16 movies per month without raising any flags (3movies/wk + 1b&m rental)

i don't know how you can call people who rent 20 movies a month "abusers" when that what the Netflix sets to be - unlimited rentals...
there are MANY people who aren't copying the DVDs - they just like watching a lot of movies.
I watch probably 7/month. But imagine someone who doesn't watch TV and watches movies instead...or a housewive with a new baby that sleeps a lot.....
and yes, i've cancelled my subscription.
