Well, if you had a directory named "con" and typed "copy con newfile.txt" in the console, it would, most likely, merely copy the contents of any text files in the local con directory to newfile.txt. Hardly a big deal. But not very helpful if you were trying to capture the console. Now, if this were a *nix system we were talking about, it'd let you create your directory, and then let you deal with the unintended consequences all by your lonesome. I'll take a bit of shepherding from Windows, thank you

type this in a command prompt

mkdir \\.\c:\con

or try

mkdir \\.\c:\lpt1

this is a silly trick. why would anyone want a folder called lpt1?

to remove it, type

rmdir \\.\c:\lpt1
