Sean Connery regularly plays Scottish, Irish, British and American characters.

Catherine Zeta Jones has played English, Mexican, and American characters (off the top of my head).

Hundreds of Cannuck actors regularly masquerade as Americans (j/k -- don't hit me with a snowball, guys).

Denzel Washington played an Italian prince in one of of those '90's Kenneth Branaugh Shakespeare films.

Was Checkhov played by a Russian actor in the original ST?
Was Uhura played by an African actress in the original ST?
Was Kirk played by a real actor in the orgininal ST?

My 3.7 cents,
Tanq

Just remember that Charlie Chan and Dr. No were played by round-eyes. So they're getting closer. Can't you give them some credit for trying?

(Don't say that, Mingster. I was kidding. They're idiots.)

And Russian--Hunt for Red October. (Yes, I know, Lithuanian by birth.)

As for Catherine Zeta Jones, I trust that she can be forgiven. There are, after all, precious few Welsh characters these days, and she does have to pay the rent. (Or whatever.)

ANd just what the heck is up with Mr. Chau of Mr. Chau's Chinese Fast Food?

He is obviously Vietnamese. Both the accent and the spelling of his last name give that away. I love it.

Yeah, and what's up with "Keno Bob's Chinese Cuisine" in Lake Tahoe? I mean, even if the guy is Chinese, what the hell kind of name is "Keno Bob"?

You think if the owner of Mr Chau's restuarant was a vietnamese guy, he would have those goddam racial commercials on TV with the little asian guy, yelping slogans like "peeeanuts!" "cheeeeap" in a wimpy little stereotypical asian voice? And if its an asian fast food place, then how come the people in the commercials are white? I hate those commercials.

Don't mean to be a spoiler, but I'm a little more concerned that the new Trek will be worth watching, regardless of how they mis-cast the ethnicity of the actors...
