they are purely motivated by money, so I dont think they would kill one unless it guaranteed more money.

The only way to fix this is to help stabilise the Somalian economy. At the moment it's a free for all and they can make a LOT of money pirating.
True and how many Africans countries need their economy fixed and how long has the world been trying to help?

i just read an article about the pirating topic in GQ I believe, it was a great read. These people have less than nothing, and their warlord rulers are doing nothing to help them

when your faced with this decision: watch your family die of hunger, or become a pirate...what would you do?

from what I have read in their country they are viewed as a modern day Robin Hood.

its a sad story, I feel our country did the right thing, and hopefully others will follow after our actions. Hopefully one day Africa will be able to provide for it's people.

It's great to see that the captain got out okay but....

Families dying of hunger? This is something much more than just feeding their families.

They have taken 10's of millions of dollars from all of this pirating so it isnt just to feed families. It's greed. Why dont these tankers put a 50 caliber on front and rear of the boat and have two watchmen.

If they see a little pos dingy coming up, warn them to back the eff off or we will tear your shit to pieces. I hate these shit heads and what they do. What do they need milllions for? To upgrade their hut? Pathetic thieves.

Here is an interesting article no other media outlets are willing to cover:

Stop giving aid to Africa; it's just not working

Really the problem lies on the corrupt leaders who have squandered the potential of many African countries. And sadly, piracy has been a result of it.

This brings a smile to my face similar to news of a burglar getting smoked by a home-owner with a 12 gauge. I was hoping they would negotiate the captain's release then turn the CIWS on them.

No details, but I've got to think it was Navy Seals. Should have happened days ago.
Actually, no. Moving too soon would have been more dangerous for the captain. The navy waited them out, always had them in sight and wisely reduced their number by taking a "negotiator" to the ship. Remember, the Navy guys get to take the rest they need, keep well refreshed and hydrated, don't have to worry about SEALs coming at them in the middle of the night. A tired man can do exactly what these guys did...get slioppy. When the snipers had three good targets, well, that was all she wrote.

Had the Navy done what the right wing Rambos were advocating, we'd be mourning the loss of the captain instead of rejoicing in his release.

The Navy handled it well.

^??

pirates = steal shit for money
terrorists = inflict random acts of violence on a targeted group (country/culture) in order to create fear and further a political goal

^big difference in my opinion
