Default Career in the video game industry

ny thoughts on the future of this industry? i know there's been a negative association with videogames as some even labeled it as not a job.

i may be switching career over to become an associate producer for a major studio (in the ranks of EA, ubisoft, activision). what do you guys feel about this career changing decision?

I'll be coming on board as an associate producer that pays a little more than my current job.

That one is very old. The other companies seem to be in a much different place. Ubisoft Montreal for example is a studio that I personally wouldn't mind joining.

industry grew 48% in one fiscal year (07-08) beating out movies in terms of total revenue.

I also have a very strong conviction that you should love your job and this is definately something thats more interesting than what i current do.

also producers at more senior levels make significant salaries / bonuses depending on the quality of the title.

Its Been Great for me

If you love video games and want to be a part of making them, I say do it!

I'm not too sure on the producing side of things, they keep things on schedule and make sure everyone is getting what they need. Not as much creative input as an artist or designer.

I really don't know much about the producing side of things [except that Jade Raymond is hot], but if you like that sorta thing and you're passionate about the industry, why not?

Long term prospects, we all know video games aren't going anywhere. You said you're joining a company on the same level as EA or Ubisoft, so unless you're being shipped to one of their no-name, experimental development studios, you've got decent job security. And who knows, if you do get shipped to one of the smaller studios, maybe you can help it make a name for itself and boost your own stock in the process.

Orange County Art Institute Video Game School

Anyone ever go to a program like this? Just curious if anyone actually graduates and "makes it"

I have a friend who works there and she loves it. She worked for a couple other smaller firms in the past but has been loving it at Ubisoft.

Yikes, not bad at all

For some reason, game nerd girls are actually attractive to me even though I don't like video games. Was talking to a buddy's girlfriend last night and she told me she'd been playing video games for the past 5 hours and should stop to do something productive. Dunno why that could possibly be sexy but she got a little more attractive in my book.
