A majority of Americans and Cubans believe we should normalize relations with the Cuban government, repeal embargoes, sanctions, travel restrictions, etc. The goal was to thwart communism. Even a deaf, dumb, blind, lobotomized man can see this goal was not accomplished.. the government didn't go anywhere. All we did was help impoverish the people.

Yeah, but it's also our prerogative to determine which countries we will and won't do business with.

Example, you don't like the way a store is being run and how the business owner treats his family who work there, so you stop shopping there. Do you have some obligation to increase the business there by offering because the children don't live very luxuriously at all? I don't think so. You tell the shop owner to change his practices for the better of everyone or you'll take your business elsewhere.

The US has been taking their business elsewhere for years and I honestly don't fault them for it, though I do still sympathize with the general Cuban population and wish that somebody would just assassinate the dictatorship-focused members of Castro family.

All Fidel Castro did was prove that a communist society will not flourish without the support of non-communist nations.

The people should be allowed to decide who they do business with. The government should only step in if there is a direct threat to the security of the United States as a result of trade or travel.

We've been taking our business elsewhere.. including our biggest trade partner: Communist China

i read today his brother is 76 in contrast to him "Castro" being 81
while everyone here is McCain age, still old dogs

i would hope for a slow gentile transition in Cuba that reflects the best good. to much suffering.

Yeah well I can't say I approve of the trade agreements there either.

I think we shouldn't trade with any communist countries period.

Does anyone think that Hugo Chavez will have any sort of impact on Cuba when the Fidels are gone? Most of Cubas oil and goods are supplied by Venezuela, would Chavez lay claim to Cuba once they are gone?

Sorry Mikey, this is far from the truth.

No nation will "flourish" without trade from foreign countries, regardless of their government organisation. The US would crumble without foreign trade.

If this is just your view of cummunist parties and their ability to do business. How about the CCP?

Cuba is just in between a rock and a hard place.

Edit: I see someone else already mentioned China.

I don't think so, Fidel has setup and interesting form of government where the young leaders within the Universities have some significant power. I can't remember the name of the group. But from what I know, I wouldn't be surprised if one of them were to rise to power.
