Communism in China is not the same as communisim in Cuba. China is more socialist and is market-based, and has been moving towards socialism for decades while Cuba has remained isolationist Marxist-Communist. Of the communist governments that still exist today, those that are moving away from Marxist ideals are the ones that are thriving, like China and Vietnam.

At ay rate, wasn't it Castro that kicked America out of Cuba? I can't see much changing until he's dead.

I'd say China is moving towards nationalism today. I understand the philosophy of the CCP is vastly different from the ruling regime in Cuba, but I was just illustrating a point

History check: Castro quickly laid out his plans to reform Cuba after gaining power following the end of the revolution in 1959. This was a concern to the U.S., and gradual trade restrictions were systematically put in place. As reform continues, and as Cuba nationalized more U.S. owned assets and industries, the U.S. responded. In late 1960, the U.S. enacted the prohibition of exports to Cuba. Shortly thereafter, they severed all remaining diplomatic ties. Upon the discovery of the Cuban missile crisis in 1962, JFK banned all trade with Cuba (except for food and medicine?) in 1963 all U.S. citizens were banned from traveling to or making any financial transactions with Cuba. We've been up shit's creek ever since, and have never really looked back.

So I guess he did in essence kick us out through the nationalization efforts.

Sorry Mikey, this is far from the truth.

No nation will "flourish" without trade from foreign countries, regardless of their government organisation. The US would crumble without foreign trade.

If this is just your view of cummunist parties and their ability to do business. How about the CCP?

Cuba is just in between a rock and a hard place.

Edit: I see someone else already mentioned China.
Interesting points and you're definitely right about no country being able to thrive without export and import industries, but they're addressed a bit below in the differences between the socialist leaning China and Cuba.

We can go enjoy the Cuban beaches from any of our International Airports here in Canada, and on the level of the general population nobody wants to see other people suffering in poverty. Everybody I know who has traveled to Cuba has brought tons of stuff for the locals.

My ex's sister had a miscarriage while on vacation in Cuba and received some atrocious medical assistance there. Hospital bathrooms where they were consisted of a stall in the hallway with a curtain and a hole in the floor. My ex held it for nearly a full day because she couldn't bring herself to go in that filthy room and she was scared to go outside somewhere and get in trouble in Cuba.

My old brother crashed a moped (idiot) and smashed up his face, requiring stitches. He has a big scar now (fortunately on the underside of his chin) because of the terrible job done.

Just a bunch of random Cuba notes with no explanation as to why I posted them

Most of Cubas oil and goods are supplied by Venezuela, would Chavez lay claim to Cuba once they are gone?
I doubt it. Other countries, including probably strangely enough the US, would not allow it.

Fidel resigned, maybe dead (woohoo) but will be replaced by his brother. According to some Raul, is ever worse than Fidel. I guess time will tell.

Bit of trivia, Fidel attended and graduated from my high school. Later after he took power, he went back and destroyed it.
