Check card number stolen, RANT
Sorry to hear about your loss. Have you tried calling again to see if anything can be resolved? You must have definitely called your wife already in Spain to let her know what's going on, right? Unless your wife bought $12,000 worth of stuff.
I hope all goes well. Just about a week ago I was also a victim from fraud.
I usually keep no more than $100 on my check card (everything else in my savings) to prevent myself from overspending. And last week, I noticed three unauthorized ATM transactions, and I'm thinking to myself, WTF. So I called my bank to report what's going on, and they said it came from my check card. I told them that wasn't possible because I never let anybody borrow my card, and nobody knows my PIN. The bank says to call back a few later after all this has been reported so I can get my money back. I called back a week later and the representative said that at one location where I used my checkcard, someone was able to copy the magnetic strip, along with a nearby hidden camera to get my PIN. So with all the info needed from me, whoever had it was able to take out money from me, and caused me to overdraft like crazy. The representative also said that the FBI was investigating this situation as I'm not the first victim, and that the pattern was the same - several transactions were being made at 7-11 stores (there are no cameras watching their ATM machines). I was pretty pissed throughout the whole week, but now I'm just glad all my money and fees were refunded.
Be careful you guys, just make sure you cover your fingers with your other hand when entering your PIN number!

Don't listen to them Steve. If it were done under the debit then it'd be gone, but that's limited to 300 bucks/ day in atm. So they had to use the credit card/debit card part. Someone did that with my wife's card. Since it requires a signature and ID, it becomes not her fault and they should replace the money.
There should be a 24 hours customer service line to take care of that problem.
What did they buy with it? The people that stole my wife's card, among other things, rented a hooker.

debit card fraud is easy. Its very common now and youd be surprised who does it, your local cashier grocer, your starbucks cashier, your walmart, I've read some cases and these kids making min wage just college a bunch of these card #s and your info or your check #s and sell them to a person waiting out in the parking lot.
