I'm Chinese and don't find the term "Oriental" offensive in the least.

 

Exactly. My significant other is Japanese and she can't understand why it's considered offensive.

Another thing to consider is the age of the person using the adjective. Don't forget that much of society grew up in a different age when political correctness had not run quite so amuck. When my grandfather uses the term 'colored', he does it with no disrespect intended.

My significant other is Jewish, Ashkenazi to be more specific, (yeah I got the top of the line), and she resents it when other people call me yellow-trailer park trash, not that there's anything wrong with that.
