Cigarettes and lung capacity
I would say that well over 90% of our cardiac angiogram and coronary bypass patients are smokers, or former cigarette smokers.
Since you are in the area, you should stop by the medical center some time. You can talk with some of our Vets who won't quit smoking. There are usually one or two hard core guys either smoking through their tracheostomy, or smoking while they are using an O2 cannula. Every once in a while someone will catch on fire, or blow up an O2 tank- it's really hard to watch them at all times!
I take care of a lot of open heart surgery patients. If you really want to see where cigarettes lead to, I can probably hook you up. It's a terrible sight to see them when they come out of the O.R.
Quit smoking ciggs, Lee! If you need to smoke- smoke weed! In 25 years, I've never seen a marijuana-related illness. It's not harmless, either. Best advice is DON'T SMOKE!!
