You can OC the GF4 card to all hell. If you know how and want to do this, buy the GF4, otherwise buy the FX.

I have both cards installed in two of the same machine. Go to Yahoo.com and type in fx vs ati. There are a few reviews where the 5900 is better. The video score on the FX card was 5430 and the video score on the ATI was 5320. Not that big of a difference but the FX was still better in our private test. I build computers on the side. So that is the 5900 128mb vs the ati 128mb. Sorry but in my opinion ATI has a long way to go. It associates IRQ's and causes mass conflicts with other software that you have to go into and fix. The FX is way better and a way easier install. For example. Go install the fx with the Soundblaster Platinum and then install the ATI. Go luck getting the ATI to work without some fun.

On a side note. It is the machines efficiency that will make the card. I can make any card look good even a two year old card. So if you have friends and you build them both computers set up identical with different card you will understand. I do vibration testing as well. My data will look different than the next guys just like a drag strip or track test.

No reputable review puts the 5900 ahead. Nvidia's credibility in the benchmark arena went to shit the minute folks figured out that they were cheating with hidden optimizations to inflate their scores.

I have never experienced, nor do I know anyone nor have I read any posts on any forums that back up your install issues.

What's more, I am at a loss to understand why you believe you can make a card perform well in a two year old machine. More power to you though.

The 5900 is a better card than the 5800 for sure -- but it's too big, still has some FSAA issues and has poorer image quality when compared to the 9800.

It's not an opinion. It is a fact. Nvidia cheats on their benchmarks, their image quality is inferior as is their implementation of DirectX9.

The ATI 9800XT is currently the superior card, hands down. Not that any of this matters, but I do not like to see people mislead, which is what you are doing by creating fake issues with the ATI card and referencing bullshit statistics that are known to be skewed.
