Default Computer guys, please help, simple question...

I'm wanting to put Win XP on my mom's computer, she presently has Win 98 Second Edition and the thing is just horrid. It hasn't worked right from day one, and I just want rid of it.

Her system properties are...

Win 98 2nd edition
64 MB of RAM (I know, the bare minimum)
2 GB HD (I believe XP takes 1.5)
and a 433 MHz processor

Going to the Win XP site it says that the system will work with it, 64MB may be questionable, but everything else should work. In your experience, is there something I'm missing? Should I update some things first?

One more thing, my mom barely uses her computer for anything at all, she never even saves anything, so I'm just trying to get the thing to work right for her. What do you think?

Thanks in advance

I would upgrade the RAM to 256mb and upgrade the HD to at least a 40GB drive.... XP will run much faster with more RAM. And with parts being cheap it shouldn't cost that much.

64 M
2 GB
433 Processor......

Just buy a new computer!

Dell's got one for like $499 that includes everything. Just a thought. If not, then do what chriso59 said.

Thanks guys, it's my mum's computer, she didn't want to spend any more money, she just wanted the thing to work propperly. I did the install in an hour, easy as pie, it works perfect.

Oh yeah, she has a 10GB HD with 87% of it free, I'll buy her some RAM sometime soon, but it's fine for her now.

She doesn't even know what a MAC is (and she's better off for it).

Teach her how to clear the cache and such to keep it running smooth...

I've run XP on some pretty crappy computers and it always runs fine
