Something like that would never fly here in the US. I am pretty damned confident of that.

Agreed. They wouldn't write you up on something controversial when there are plenty of ways to ticket you.

It will never stick in the US. A kid on the BMW boards I think got a arrested for it, and then sued the city...and won. First amendment is a bitch.

The law isn't really for the guy who says/mutters damn it in public. It's for the people who are abusively cursing [at someone] and disturbing the peace; like going irate on a starbucks employee for forgetting the cream, or going apeshit at someone in public. While I'm all for freedom of speech, I'm also all for limiting public douchebaggery.

I kinda have a love-dislike situation with the law. Does it go against what I believe in? Yes. Do I wish I could slap people when they do this in public? Yes.

I agree with you in that specific context but as you know, the law would be grey enough that cops start ticketing people who murmur "SHIT" for stubbing their toe. As for ticketing someone who is verbally abusing a customer service employee then hell ya!

And wtf, I got a ticket for "Car too low" afew months back in socali, but went to the judge on it and DISMISSED!!

Most of this has been litigated to death over here but that still does not stop the attempt to infringe. I guess Kyushins favorite case should be Lewis vs City of New Orleans which pretty muchs clears the decks to tell a cop to go F himself. (not that I would recommend it.

I don't really want to bring up my "charged with a crime for flipping the bird to a tailgater" thread, but even if you are not supposed to, it does not stop an officer from just trying to be a prick to you.

My wife did a one year stint as a county prosecuter when she got out of law school and she said they would get cases all the time where some college kid was drunk and flipped off a cop and got arrested. Since everybody knows it is protected speach I asked her why they would even bother prosecuting. Her answer was "Because 90% would get scared enough by the system to pay $300 to make it go away."
