for me, the value in your watch is that it is a vintage (and i assume authentic) Rolex.

unless you can get all of those replaced with circa 1982 parts, i would just rather buy a current GMT.

your beautiful, vintage 25 year-old GMT will be updated with a 2007 bezel, sapphire and bracelet....well, what's left?

you see what i'm getting at?
I see your point....... i doubt you could even find original pieces

You will find original reconditioned pieces. I agree with Nimesh.........leave the watch alone. You will certainly drop the value if you replaced the original parts with brand new parts. Even with a few nicks and ticks, original is worth more. You can have the watch steam cleaned and polished, that is not a destructive process.

I have 3 watches that I never wear...one was my father's old bulova tank style, one is some designer forgot who and I am not going to look for it, and the other is some cheapo from eddie bauer (also a tank style) or some other store like that. I've never been late to a meeting or an appointment without them.

I just bought an expensive (to me) watch last year. How often should I have this type of service done?

I finally took the plunge and bought my first nice automatic watch two days ago. It's entry-level compared to what some people here own, but it's an Oris TT1 Day/Date.

You can steam clean your watch as often as you like. Polishing you do at your own discrection. When your watch starts to look beat up, it's time. Oris makes nice watches BTW.

*Edit*

You polish watches that have polished metal. If your watch is brushed stainless, the process is a bit different.
