Count Your Blessings
Last Tuesday I had throat surgery to clear up my sleep apnea - I hope it works.
Since then I've had a miserable time swallowing, I've had a headache almost constantly, the antibiotic nauseates me, and half the time when I try to eat or drink something as innocuous as Jello or water I choke on it.
This morning my wife cooked some sausage for breakfast for everyone (else), and I had to walk through a house filled with the aroma knowing that I'm going to get turkey broth for my meals.
Now she's cooking the turkey, and the vegetables, and the cranberry-orange relish, and has the pie done, and all I get to do is suffer through these wonderful aromas knowing that I get turkey broth. (I was able to eat some chocolate ice cream, so that's a little better.)
With so many people in the world who have never even had the chance to smell a turkey dinner, or to simply get turkey broth, or chocolate ice cream, or any filling meal for that matter, I have no right to complain. And with so many people suffering from one medical problem or another, or without the wherewithal to afford clothing or shelter, and me having medical insurance that paid for a first-rate surgeon in a first-rate hospital, I have no right to complain.
Please count your blessings today. If you're celebrating the birth of Christ today, God bless you - go help someone as Christ would have you do. If you do not celebrate Christ's birth, God bless you - go help someone and share your good fortune.
