Ok, I agree with you that they want Jack dead, but then why didn't they ice him in the bank early on? Seemed like a great opportunity to me. I know it's a television show, but the logic is a little fuzzy on this one.

 

Keep reminding yourself each episode is only 1 hour in a 24 hour day.

We haven't seen Jack go in to the bank yet.. he will be doing that on Monday. We only saw that its going to happen on the previews. Then again i don't even know why he's going IN to a bank... but we will find out on Monday.

I meant early on in the season (second/third episode maybe), when he went to rescue the kid in the bank that was taken hostage by the terrorists. (The episode where he was in a Flank 2 Position )

I mean the original plan was the let the terrorists take the nerve gas and release it in the terrorist camp before the terrorists can release on Russia. According to Cummings their plan was to prove the existence of WMD in Central Asia. Logan the mastermind I think benefits this from two ways - allowing America to increase it's military presence in the area and guarantee the flow of oil and possibly extending his term in office (You got to remember, he wasn't elected. He stepped in when the other President died in Air Force One last year).

The original plan gets foiled because the terrorist with the yellow tie got suspicious of Cummings mole. He finds out the mole plants a device on the nerve gas. He kills the mole and tells Cummings - America is going to pay for his mistake.

Logan reinstates Jack, IMHO is for Jack to clean up the mess. Once the Logan's original plan got messed up - terrorists releasing it here instead of Russia or at their camp site - he needed Jack to kill the terrorists and recover the nerve gas. Who else is he going to call? Robo? He's seen how Jack operate, he gets sh*t done, so he needs Jack. While Jack is out and about getting the baddies, Logan and Robo goes around clearing the evidence that might link them to today's events.

Another point for the original plan - increasing military presence to insure the flow of oil was letting the terrorists attack the Russian convoy to the airport. Logan, I think saw that as an opportunity to sacrifice the Russian Pres, Russian Pres's wife and his own wife for the greater cause. If the terrorists were successful, then Logan will go after the terrorists in their own country and start a war - going back to the original plan. Remember they just signed a pack against terrorist - so if the Russian Pres died on our soil, we HAVE to react.

Killing Palmer was because he knew too much about what is going on and who is behind it. Once Palmer was dead, they had to kill Michelle, (Or try to) Tony and Chloe. This was to frame Jack - to deflect suspicion away from Logan and his agenda. Everyone would be looking for a man's that is dead and not suspect Logan and his crew.

Also I think they killed Palmer right before the treaty because he was going to tell Ms Logan (Not the whole truth) enough to cause a commotion to foil the signing of the pact against terrorist. Probably tell her that if her husband signed that he would die or something. Palmer can't tell her the truth since it's her own husband but tell her something to foil the signing of the pact. No pact means no killing at airport. No killing at airport means no way of getting nerve gas out of airport. No nerve gas out of airport means no WMD. No WMD means no Logan plan.
