Cowboy Poets
This morning on NPR there was an "audio postcard" from Baxter Black at the 20th National Cowboy Poetry Gathering in Elko, NV. The link to NPR has poetry readings and songs performed at the gathering.
In the postcard we got to hear part of a poem about a cowboy who taught his dog to set, and to lay, and, finally, to speak. When she learned to speak she said, "You twit! It's 'sit', and 'lie'!"
They had part of another poem: "Equus Caballus"; it'll bring tears to the eyes of anyone who loves horses.
They also had a musical performance by cowboys from Mongolia, playing some strange Mongolian stringed instruments: one played with a bow and one plucked. After a few moments the audience realized that they were just a fiddle and a banjo.
