So you only need to have hundreds to thousands of dollars worth of equipment and feel that your time with worth less than 10 an hour.
Wonder if buddy would be willing to pay for the paint? Bet he didn't think of that...

With that said, here's an experience I'm having right now:
I need a new calculator for Calculus so I'm looking at a TI-89. New they are like $140+tax.
I can find them all day on Craigslist for $90. Some guy said he wanted it gone, was asking $95 for it. At the time I had some spare cash and said "I'll give you $80 right now" he said "sorry lowest I can go is $90" I said "no thanks!" because I don't need it right now.
Just got an email saying he'd do $75 if I still wanted it. Don't have the spare cash right now, so I said if he wants to hold it, I'll pay my original offer of $80 just so I know I can get a nice, new calculator for 1/2 the price of a brand new one. He passed a curtsy on to me, so I did the same back. Treat others how you'd like to be treated

not to beat a dead horse, but....
I'm attempting to sell that dreamcast system from above through CL, and put an ad up asking $400 for it. in reality, I only expect maybe $350, or I'll settle for that anyways. already, I had an offer for $250, and last night, I got an offer for $305.
don't understand the $5...

I said "just give me 10 bucks" and he kept staring and squinting at the items on the table like they were going to provide him insight into how to handle the situation. He then said, I'll give you $8.
I posted one of my cars for sale on craigslist once with an asking price of $7800.. I had people offer me $5000 all of the time and tell me that the other 2800 would be hard for them to come up with. Mind you the car kbb was $9400 at the time lol
I bought a 1987 Toyota van a few years ago from a coworker for $125. I put another $275 in it just fixing up stuff and doing maintenance. Planned on keeping it at first but decided to sell. Started at a $1000. Had people calling giving me a sad story and wanting me to take payments. Ummm.....no. or wanting me to take $500. Got tired of all that and sold it to a buddy's parents for $600.

When I sell something on craigslist, I always settle on a price over email or phone before they come over. I like quick transactions. They come, give me cash, I give them product, they leave.

I've only unloaded one item on Craig's list. It was a vacuum cleaner that I bought new for ~$350. The motor burned up just outside the warranty period and before I could order and install a new one, my g/f went out and bought a better vacuum. Needless to say, the broken one sat in the house (in the original box) for the next 6-7 years.
In cleaning out the attic, I decided I might get $25-50 for it and someone could fix it or use the attachments (it's a canister vac). Upon looking locally on Craig's list, I found someone else giving away the same exact vacuum for free, except their's worked. So I put up an add to give it away, with the stipulation that you take one part, you take the whole thing, including the box.
Immediately we got e-mails about particular parts, and asking if they worked with their particular vacuum.
Finally a guy said he'd take it. We arranged to meet at a local grocery store parking lot. He tried to take just the attachments, but I was firm that he take the whole thing.All-in-all, it would have been easier to just put it in the landfill.
a funny craigslist ad about a guy selling cinder blocks:
