now you know why I just throw my stuff in the garbage. I do not like haggling and to me its easier to trash shit or give it away to a friend than to sell it.
There's also Freecycle.

Well, sometimes stuff are too valuable to be thrown away, but at the same time, the owner doesn't use them, so it's a good idea to sell 'em for money. For example, my printer was sold for $160 (asked for only 150), but it was much more brand new - too valuable to be thrown or given away. That is why CL is such a valuable source, unlike Ebay (all kinds of fees and shipping hassle), but minus the hagglers, scammers, spammers, etc.

No "happy ending" by your definition, Warren, but a satisfied ending in my view.

craigslist is easy to sell on, you figure out what you really want to get out of the item and add $25-30, when they haggle you down $25-30 you get what you wanted...

i have no problem asking for the world when i'm buying stuff. you guys know i got the 2 z6 motors for $150, but i've paid full price for stuff i wanted. in that case i asked for the 2nd motor and he said sure, so i asked if i could have the header and 4-wire o2 sitting next to it and he said sure again. he could have said no and i would have still paid him. he has just done a b18 swap so i knew he was getting rid of it. i guess the point is that so many people will take peanuts just to get rid of junk that you get low-balled to crap.

that being said you get a lot of professional garage sale shoppers for cheap crap and they play games when they get there. i agree that meeting in a public place makes it feel less like a garage sale and much like a sales transaction. it also gives you the opportunity to get back in the car and terminate the sale.

Don't sell the nickel and dime stuff IMO. It's such a pain. Also if they do haggle on the little shit, don't get mad it's worth .75 to 10 bucks to get them the he'll out of your place with your junk.

The tacking on at the beginning is a good idea.

If it's stuff that I'm not hoping to make much off of, I think I'm going to just tell them $5 /cable, and basically let them set the price since I'd be happy enough selling them at $1 a piece. I mean, most of the cables are worth $10-30 anyhow so everyone should just be happy.

I got anxiety thinking about having to sell stuff so I just put it all into my storage room and closet maybe I'll work up the courage to post things this weekend.

Or simply state on the ad: "Price is firm and non-negotiable! If you don't agree to the price, then don't contact me or buy." It works 99% of the time.

I gotta love CL; it's helped me get rid of quite a few stuff. Few years ago, I had bought a Macintosh server system for my business, but months after, it didn't get used so I had to sell it. Sold it on CL for $12K, although I paid $14K - still a good deal considering I could've been stuck with it and out $14K, or had to sell on Ebay for a much lower price with many fees. That's why I heart CL.

Clean them, and if its a metal part use a polishing compound to shine them up.
My old roomate posted an intake manifold and a few other parts off of his rx7. They didn't sell for a while so he used some rubbing compound to make them look shiny, posted some pictures and raised the price (for the labor involved in making them look new) and they sold in a few days.
