He is way cool. I have seen him get bit by a croc once. I always knew I'd see it if I watched long enough.
BTW - His wife is from Eugene, OR. About 2 hours from where I live in Portland.

It's interesting that the only two unenthusiastic comments come from Australians. No disrespect meant in any way in mentioning this, but interesting.
His excitability isn't in any way a reflection of how other Australians act, which is what i suspect you Aussies are concerned about...? His ability to 'represent'? Or is it simply because you all co-exist with those creatures, so it's no big deal? Just curious.
His excitable personality is a great thing. His genuine passion is reflected in his behavior, and is unmarred by 'societal standards'. I respect him greatly for this. He doesn't care what anyone thinks.

You make some valid points.
However, he also is the Director of the Australian Zoo, not just some dumb schmuck running around, and I think his work off-screen entitles him to the respect that I gave him. But that's why I wanted your opinion, because I don't really know.
If Steve was a wannabe, I'd agree with you about being just an idiot and an imbecile.
But because of the work he appears to do for the community and for the Zoo, I'd have to say otherwise. Just my thoughts on why I respect him.
