In most cases, I'd rather they not find my car if it's stolen- that's why I've stopped installing LoJack on my cars...

Too bad there is still a wait on new ones. However, I think you may get more back from the insurance company than you paid for it...

Well I agree, I had hoped that they never find it but they did last night. They found it in an abandon warehouse in Hialeah. I just got back from going to look at it and its in VERY bad shape. Totally striped... engine and tranny are gone, interior is completely gutted out, wheels, even the damn windshield wipers. These a$$holes were ruthless. I took some pictures and I'll post them later after I get the film developed and scanned in. Its pretty ugly.

I pray that my insurance will declare it as a total loss. If not, then I guess it will be fixed and immediately sold. Anyone interested?

In any case, the adjustor is going out there this morning and I should have an answer this afternoon or Monday morning.

Should they declare it a total loss, I found a BMW dealership up north in West Palm Beach that has a few used M3's with very low miles and a couple new ones coming in within a month.

What the hell can they do with a new m3 engine?

They can't put it in much, and it's very hard to sell... wtf, who are these people?

I'd definitely do that.

I don't know if I'm happy or sad to hear they found the car. I do know I hope things work out in your favor!! With the car in the condition you are describing I can't imagine the car not being totalled.
Thanks for the offer to post pics!
As Editor of the local BMW CCA Newsletter I might be PM'ing you for a possible story.
Good luck, I know this is not easy!

Sorry to hear about your car Mav. Since its such a rare car, the market value for the car should be pretty high. Ignore "bluebook value" and insist that the insurance company compensate you for "replacement cost" or a like vehicle. This should assure you of some more $, as the cost to get a replacement in a timely manner will be far greater than "blue book"

Maybe you whould also look to your employer for compensation due to their role in all this...at least get some vacation days out of this. Dont they realise the liability they are exposed to for exposing their employees to such risks.

Good luck with all this.

You will get replacement value I'm sure. There is no Kelly Blue Book value, they've not been around long enough. KBB is daft but is based on the value that used cars sell for. Lo jack probably would have helped you get it back, but maybe not.

Sorry to hear what happened.

Just to give you some insight. My 2000 Integra Type-R was stolen in the middle of the night from my apartment. I had Lojack installed but was of no use. By the time I woke up to get my car at 7:00am, they already had 6 hours to totally strip it. Therefore, in order for LoJack to be effective, you must immediately report your car missing. They found my car the next day at a builders' house in the garage completely stripped. My insurance company Statefarm ended up giving me purchase price of the car minus $250 for deductable and $800 for mileage (30cents/mile).

If your car is fairly new with low clicks, ask for the original purchase price.
Good Luck
