Our receptionist at the front is pretty good at telling people to buzz off if they don't have an appointment and are trying to sell crap the company doesn't want or need.

Our GM (down the hall from me) got a call yesterday. All I heard was his end of the conversation: "I'm sorry, but you have to wrong extension, I don't handle that". Then he hung up.

You should post her picture on some random dating websites and stress that she likes casual sex. Provide phone number. Let her deal with those "solicitors".

Or just give her a donkey punch.

Part of my job is being a gate keeper with solicitors.
as do I & I give them 0 time.

telemarketers don't even get past hello - click - unless my boss is being a dick then I put them through!

solicitors that come up to the door get ignored. we don't have walk in business so if someone is standing at the door they are a solicitor & we're in a bad neighborhood so I'm not taking any chances in opening the door to anyone.

now if there was only a way to spam the spammers...

Too harsh? Nah. He probably gets much worse from his own boss and co-workers. No personal experience with sales, but a friend of mine was in the field for a little while - and got out as quick as possible. IMO, it was just a waste of your time, but if it made you feel better, great.

My boss doesn't go by his real name, so whenever a call comes in for "Philip" I know it's a solicitation. They try to be so sneaky too.
"Hi, I spoke with the Philip earlier today and he said I should call back around this time after he'd had some time to review this info"

Liar!

"I'm sorry, he's been called away at the last minute. Give me your info and I will have him return your call"
I can lie too.

LOL I get solicitors at work ALL the time asking if we want a small business line of credit... I tell them my corporation is probably bigger than theirs and if they haven't heard of such a common name they should quit their job.

I tend to deal with the majority of these calls at my company as well. We don't get a crazy amount of them so I'm always pretty polite and try to just relate to them a little and not add to the misery of the day.

One time, however, I had the pushiest new phone company representative calling me on the telephone and emailing me. I told him repeatedly how many thousands of dollars were just invested in our new VOIP system, of the contracts we have in place, etc etc, and our general lack of interest.

Despite all this he proceeded (after multiple shut-downs on the phone) to come to my office unannounced. Normally I have the highest consideration for the value of peoples' time, but I came out and said hello, told him I wasn't available at the moment but he didn't seem to want to leave. I told him I'd talk to him when I was available and stuck him in the board room for over an hour.

When I came in eventually I sat with him for about 5 minutes and it was apparent that he was a bold, pushy jerk so I wrapped it up.

I never heard from him again.
