Dealing with solicitors at work...
Part of my job is being a gate keeper with solicitors, so our owners don't have to deal with additional crap. Today I was in a bad mood because I was dealing with other people that are trying to screw our company and I got this unsolicited email from a guy who called here asking for me. When I wasn't at my desk, he told the receptionist to page me like it was a very important matter. I told the receptionist to push to voicemail. He told her that he would email me instead and I get this (info change to protect the innocent (and not so innocent)):

SERIOUSLY, what is wrong with people. Where I work we get about 5 calls a day asking us if we want to purchase certain 1-800 phone numbers.
Its annoying as hell, but no you weren't too harsh, he is completely in the wrong.

Not at all harsh, in my opinion. Business etiquette requires that if a person declines an opportunity, you let them go and move on. The fact that he kept coming back was rude.
I'd have insulted him a little more professionally, that's all. Something along the lines of:
"In Business Manners 101, I was taught to politely acquiesce to a business contact's wishes in regards to personal and professional communication. Your continued insistence in peddling an opportunity in which I have no interest would suggest that you failed this course. Furthermore, your unresearched solicitation with general commentary on the worthiness of said solicitation is both juvenile and asinine. While I can generally commend a persistent attitude, in your case I must make an exception and cordially invite you to never contact me again. Declination of this invitation will lead to a conversation with your immediate supervisor."

What do you do with dirtbags walking into sell some crap out of a box, when you have a "no soliciting" sign on your door?
