Default Defeating speed cameras?

Has anyone ever come up with an effective way of defeating speed cameras with the excpetion of not speeding or mounting some kind of device that sends a signal strong enough to fry their radars?

I thought about mounting flash guns that go off when flashed at on number plates. The theory being that they will overexpose the film in the camera.

Front is easy if you have no plate mounted.

For the rear? .. well .. we've discussed everything from Glad Wrap to radar foiling number plate covers.

A few of us stopped short of actually buying them some time ago due to doubts about the claims of the manfacturers.

Yeah I seriously doubt any of the manufactures claims.

My opinion is that any number plate cover that is effective would be illegal as it would obscure the plate from view.

What are the legal implications of getting caught in QLD without a front number plate?

Certain personalised plate colour combinations may effectively increase the chances off photos not turning out due to poor contrast and small plate size.

Usually a warning until you strike a cop that logs it in the computer. Get pulled up again after that and the same excuse might not work again. I believe around a $70 fine if you get caught often enough... so the last cop told me.

I have no plate in front and sometimes I get pathetic harrassment from the pigs here in Sydney but I always get away with it no doubt ... Cuz they're pigs and pigs are stupid, damn stupid most of the time.

The rear is a little different, I have a not so clear plate cover that I bought from some magazine for approximately $100 or something ... Originated from Queensland anyway, it's translucent so to speak and does no visible display at angles especially. Only directly from the rear, it can be seen and I've never got a problem with speed cameras. The pigs don't see the difference so once again, no problem there as well.

About 30 years ago we had a pilot program using these speed cameras in the town I lived in. A local aerospace firm (LTV) was sucking defense-wise, and was looking for other products to market to local governments.

Their system consisted of two sensor strips several feet apart and a computer to count the elapsed time a car took to go between the strips. When the speed limit was exceeded, a camera would flash and get a picture of the plate and the driver.

The system proved to be quite unpopular, to say the least. People would cover their plate, run through the trap at about 80 mph and either flip off the camera or have their passenger moon it.

The entire system was removed (never to be heard from again) after some enterprising speeder used a can of spray paint to block the camera lens.

The traps with the two strips were used in europe like 30 years ago or something, but they only use radars and lasers now.

Hey Takashi have you actually been flashed by a camera though?

All the permanent speed cameras in NSW use pressure sensors under the roadway. They do not use flash and don't need one, even at night. They are also digital cameras so they don't run out of film. Fortunately they are also a complete joke because there are at least 3 prominent signs before each one and the camera itself is huge. Everyone slows down for them then boots it again right afterwards. More of a problem is the boys in blue hiding behind a bush with their radar unit. Fear of these bastards makes any trip on a freeway an exercise in speedo watching (and I wonder how dangerous that is compared with going 20km/h over the limit?).

My solution: use an LCD cover over the plate with switch in the car. While driving, the switch is closed and the cover is opaque, blocking any pictures of the plate. With the switch open (such as when you are being pulled over by the police), the cover is transparent and the plate is easily visible.

Why doesn't someone make something like this? It would be cheap and easy.

DHess ... Yes, I've been flashed a couple of times before and never got anything sent to me in my mailbox regarding speed cameras or traffic infringements for that matter anyway.

Naishou, I set off a few all at night before they had the signs and yes, they did flash like red light camera operatives ... 1, Hume Highway (Heading towards Ashfield Direction) for the 60KM/H doing 85KM/H or so mark after the Strathfield left turn. 2, Henry Lawson Drive (Heading towards Hurstville Direction in the middle of the winding roads) for the 60KM/H doing 140KM/H or so as well. 3, Great Western Highway (Heading towards Rosehill Racecourse Direction) for the 70KM/H doing 100KM/H or so mark just pass the bridge.

Whether they have film or not, I'm not sure but I've seen Police technicians working on them in the middle of the day on a weekend.
