please.........you care to discuss ignorance....

Ignorance to me, is paying through the nose for what is a semi-precious stone AT BEST.

Diamonds are the biggest scam on the planet.

Do a little research on diamond cartels like DeBeers and the true history of diamonds and then get back with me.

99.9% of women out there would not know a real diamond if it sat on their lap and called them mamma.

So what did you buy your wife? And if you are not married, what do you plan on giving your future wife?

I simply contrasted the implied value of a diamond with the intrinsic and very real value of an emerald or Alexandrite.
The problem for me, anyway, was your high-and-mighty "I know all about geology" attempt to swing the suck-it stick, and convince us using rational logic why he should buy a fakie diamond.

I'd bet that, to a man, every guy in this discussion would be HAPPY to buy a $150 fake diamond for our wives, and congratulate ourselves for making a great choice.

BUT, that rational logic doesn't extend to women. So all the facts about "what's the rarest stone and represents the best rarity-per-dollar-factor" are thrown out the window when you are dealing with HIGHLY irrational people like, for instance, my wife. Telling me I'm an idiot for spending $10k on a non-rare stone doesn't really help when I wasn't buying a $10k stone because it's rare, I was buying a $10k stone because that's what my wife wanted. Is it stupid? Absolutely. But I love her anyway.

At any rate, had you mentioned TALKING to your wife and TOGETHER deciding to get a fake stone in your initial post, everyone woulda just nodded and moved on. But you didn't mention that, and a bunch of us ass-u-med that you were suggesting to just dupe the woman, and that made us think you were kind of a juice weasle. Then, someone called you on it and you launched into your geological masturbation session, and told us all what idiots we were for buying our wives what they wanted.

Maybe some of us jumped to conclusions, but it sure does seem like you leapt up to fight real fast, and could have avoided the whole thing with a simple clarification instead of a geological jerk-off.

So 150k is now an average 3 month salary

Sh1t, if I had to shell out 3 months salary for a diamond ring, it'd be spending in excess of 30k, and that's already a fair bit >_<

When I bought my wife's ring, I was unemployed (but had just accepted a job offer.) My dad says "Does that mean you can spend $0 since it's 3x your monthly salary?"

Sadly, no.

That is one of the best quotes I have heard. Right up there with Churchill.

Thanks. Remember to lube the rocks first to prevent chaffing.

(no hard feelings btw, all in good internet-arguing fun)
