Your C2100 (2.11MP) takes great photos but you are comparing it to a 3MP Nikon....

The C3030 or 3040 @ $799.99 would be the one's to compare. (Or even the C3000 @ $699.99)
32MB SDRAM and Sharper, FASTER lens than the Nikon.
If you want more "total res." from your 2100, use the TIFF mode and the files are uncompressed! {Remember the files will be 5.8MB EACH in TIFF} Hope that helps!
You would right to get the C2100 for the lens, it is a great range. I have made prints to 11X14 from the 2100 in "SHQ" mode [file is 1.4MB] and they are tack sharp.
The D490 upgrades from the D460 (1.3MP) offering 2.11MP and the "Quicktime" video...
