Default Help me buy a video camera...

I'm going to be buying a camcorder here soon and need suggestions. Things I'm looking for are

1. Size - I want to be able to mount it in the S.

2. Resolution - I want clarity.

3. a decent zoom - I dont want a 4000x zoom if you cant hold it still enough to see anything.

4. Snap shots - maybe just to take a few.

Thats probably what everyone looks for in a video camera but....

Anything like that in the $500-$1000 range? I haven't loooked at anything yet.

Thanks
JT

I just got the JVC DR-GVP7 for $1000, great compact size, built in lens cover really small size, digital stills, fits in your palm. Video quality is possibly less than the Sony PC101 (my boother has a PC9 for me to compare with), but it's smaller.

Anyone have apic of a camera mount for the S2000, or know where to get one?

Here's one of my set-ups, using 2 PC-101s and a Ztec mount.

This set-up is for a forward view, and a close-up of the speedo and tach. The close up view of the speedo and tach will be synchronized and edited into the forward view with picture-in-picture.

There are many different ways to mount cameras on the S2000, and on yourself, so it depends what you are looking to do.

I love that camera mount, and if we were still autocrossing I'd have that one for sure! For captureing video when on a cruise or meet, it seems like it's overkill. Wouldn't it be cool if someone made a camera mount that safely attached to the roll bar directly over the drivers head? Then you'd get some pictures of your hands on the wheel, and the road ahead like we see on TV when you watch F-1 or CART.
