Default Dilemma with a Lease...

A friend of mine at work has a dilemma. She was a moron and didn't change the oil in her 2006 _______ and the engine is now locked up. The lease is up in March. She came to me looking for advice but I'm not too sure how she could go about taking care of this. Any advice is much appreciated.

Pretty much. She was effectively renting the car. She does not own it. She is required to maintain the car as a condition of the lease and is required to return it undamaged with normal wear and tear for a car of that leasing term.

Lol... So her only option would be a rebuild?

She screwed it up - she has to fix it. There's no blaming the dealership or anyone else. Maybe her insurance will cover it.

Or a used motor swap.

Meh, just tell her to tow it back to the dealership and hope they wont notice.

Or just tell her to park it in a really bad neighborhood with the keys on the roof.

That might not be an option on a lease, they might demand a new engine.

She could be quite screwed on this.
