I have been working out for around three months now and have already put on 12lbs and my body fat percentage has only gone up 2%.
I am 6'2 and weighed 170, and now am still 6'2 and weigh 182 in three months. The main thing I did was eat alot... around 6 meals a day, and not like snack meals I mean full out meals. But then I started replacing 2-3 of the meals with protein shakes. Almost all the shakes are pretty much the same, I really like cytogainer or muscle milk, and lean desert protein (<-- my favorite).
Because you are suppose to take anywhere from 1-1.5 grams of protein per pound of body weight. So if you are 200lbs you should be taking 300g of protein. Which is right around 50g per meal for 6 meals a day. And each shake is right around 50g of protein so you can replace 2-3 of the meals with a shake and be just fine. If you tend to put weight on really easily then this isn't the right thing for you...
The other thing I did to make sure all these carbs and protein didn't turn into fat was a loading stage where you eat this for two weeks without working out and let it develope. And then go to the gym and don't do cardio otherwise you work it all off and start hitting the weights to turn it into muscle. To help me do this I started stacking some performance supplements, recovery supplements, and muscle supplements.
BSN This is exactly what I am taking... the top one plus the lean desert from the bottom one on that page. It really works I have already added 30lbs to my bench... but the work and commitment is hard to keep up with!! Hope that helps and I'm sorry for going on so long... but there is not really a short way to go over it!!
I tried drinking some of those $3.50 carbo drinks right after lifting, but then i wouldn't feel like eating...... I am just not built to be big.
you really shouldn't be taking carbo drinks after your workouts. you may want to take it before or during, but after your workouts, your intake should consist of predominantly proteins. proteins consist of amino acids that are required to repair and build muscle tissues. excessive carbo after a hard workout is useless to your muscles and will just be turned into fat. if you want to drink anything after your workout, go for a protein shake. also, if you seriously want to gain muscle and weight, you have to force yourself to eat even if you don't want to. working hard and being dedicated to your workout is only half the requisite for building the body of your desire. the other half is working hard and being dedicated to the proper and adequate diet and nutrition.

i had just read an article saying to take carbs within 10 minutes of working out....it was supposed to help out way more than not....???
I am sure (like anything in life) there are 2 sides to everything related to working out/ gaining weight, etc......
unless i take creatine or something I will always be under 180lbs......

your body will always need "fuel" throughout the day in the form of glucose, and carbs are the most readily and easily converted into glucose. as to whether high carb intake immediately after a workout has great benefits, i don't know for certain, but if drinking your carbo drink keeps you from consuming a meal with high protein after your workout, then i personally believe you are better off not taking that carb drink, and have a high protein meal instead. again, proteins contain the building blocks (i.e. amino acids) required for muscle tissue building and repair, and the body (supposedly) is most active at repairing muscles 1-2 hours post workout, so if you don't have the building blocks floating around in your circulatory system for your body to repair your muscles, then your body will resort to breaking down other proteins in your body (such as other muscle tissues) in order to have the building blocks for the repair. from what i understand, for anyone who do weight lifting workouts to build muscles, it is very important to have a high protein diet, not only post workout, but throughout the week. as for creatine, a good portion of the weight you gain from creatine is extra water retention. the bulk and weight you see is partially from extra water in your body.

That's right.... The majority of the creatine "bigger look" is mostly water. I have a friend who got absolutely huge looking (I mean everybody thought he was on the ROIDS) and I asked him and he said all it was is the creatine. However when we went to the gym he wasn't lifting as much as he should have been and it was actually embarrasing for his size to be lifting such little weight.
So yea in some cases creatine gives you the look but not necessarily the power/ performance. Vise-a-Versa as well though it all depends on how your body works.
If you ask any serious body builder or any trainer at the gym they are going to tell you the most important part to body building is eating and nutrition. And as stated above the most important meal is after working out because building muscle doesn't take place at the gym working out...you break them down at the gym, and then when you really build and develope the muscle is the rebuilding and recovery part!!

Where did you get this info because it's not accurately presented? Post workout you shoud be taking in BCAAs and then about 30mins after have a protein shake (isolate) and mix in some simple carbs like dextrose. This serves to give your body an insulin spike and transport the protein to the muscles faster taking them out of the catabolic state which is induced from training.
